Brainwave
By Jai Bria
Compassion is the core of my being shining green
It’s the truest essence i’ve had the opportunity of seeing
Yet I’m eclectic and flawed: like most humans often are
When I’m triggered all is see is the color of the stars
Yellow blinding my awareness for a minute or two
When I snap back creeping in are some traces of blue
All because of the pathways that my brain runs through
Foggy grey clouds of trauma sit and obstruct the view
So the orange coursing current takes an alternate path
Yet the only way forward is by doubling back
And sitting in the storm the clouds had threatened me with
I watch as fiery streaks of lightening hit just feet from where i sit
Sure my clothes are saturated and my fingers are pruned
But I survived the very storm that claimed to trigger my blue
Now when anytime the yellow shines too bright for me to see
I throw a raincoat on my back and some boots upon my feet
