Brackish Water Blues

Poetic stagnation and lamentation

By Jen ChichesterPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

Blue and black into brown,

Brackish water blues -

Watch me drown.

Bitter, they call me,

But I prefer the term

Salty.

I drift slowly, a body,

A vessel setting out to sea.

But maybe I'll sprout

A tail serpentine

And become a

Melusine.

Once green

Around the gills

In a serene ecosystem

Warmed with light from above,

I am now a blackish hue

Singing my

Brackish water blues.

Song of the siren

I'll sing 'til you drown,

Join me here in the deep,

Deep, deep down.

Static and stagnant,

Listless and lonesome,

A monster unfathomable,

I'll sing for you

My brackish water blues.

Maybe you

Will sing for me

Too?
