Borrowed Time

Am I living on someone else's clock?

"Borrowed Time"

The words rang in my head

Because for the last few months,

All I keep asking myself is...

"Where has the time gone?"

Time spent worrying around

About person A, B, C, D

Tired by the end of the day

Too exhausted to do my favourite things

Like read

Or indulge in a succulent piece of chocolate cake.

It's a constant struggle, it is

For this balancing act

Requires me to think about

Responsibilities

Mend my own heartbreak

Make time to rediscover myself

All the time.

Everything is urgent

But my own commitment to myself.

I'm trying very hard to find myself

Moments to myself

In this borrowed time that I have,

Until I can find to live on my own terms

On my own clock again.

Heartbreakingly relatable for anyone who has lost or broken up with a loved one. Every moment spent living in memory of the past while struggling to determine the nature of the future is a moment to be both treasured and reviled. If this is a factual poem then I wish you the best. I hope you find someone new or discover how to live for you. 😢
