Stories shared

some not yet written

narratives

prompting quarrels

others

inspiring laughter

language

sparking romantic escapades

more often

denoting solemn silence

chapters

short, not-so-sweet

segments

drawn out, delightful

and the pages keep turning

reading you

causes blurry vision

headaches, eyestrain

out loud

or in my head

none of the words

make sense

literary reflections

cliches

jumbled sentences

prose poised for pause

novel intentions

filler thoughts

ideas never printed

forget about

communicated

character development

weakened plot twists

when fiction and fairy tales

articulate love

better than you

leafing through paragraphs

I discover not a hero

not a savior

not a meaningful happy ending

but a realization

you and I

no matter how hard I try

will always be bookends

never quite meeting

in the middle

    Nice

  • Very cleverly written… an unexpectedly sad end🥹.

A beautiful exploration of love and distance.

Oh, this was beautifully layered. What started as an experience through the pages of literature, ends up becoming a confession of how love is not like a fairytale, sometimes it’s two people becoming bookends, who can’t seem to meet in the middle. Clever and absolutely, lovely to read. I especially liked how you linked the not so good symptoms of reading to the person in question, the eyestrain, the weakened plot twist — he, whoever, chooses not to or cannot live up to the stories between the pages, deep. 👏🏽👌🏽♥️

Oh wow, the ending was sad but as I read it, you articulated it so beautifully~ Thanks for sharing, Marilyn~

  • Oh my, that ending hit me so hard. Made me remember how parallel lines can never meet. Loved your poem so much!

Really beautiful Marilyn, but also quite sad - the fact they never meet in the middle. Well done.

What a creative poem you have here. It seems to be all about living a book life with someone special but two can't seem to meet. Good job.
