blurry

(thoughts)

Top Story - August 2023

i pay for my

cheap dopamine

in blurry thoughts

and weak knees.

it’s actually

quite expensive.

i forgot people

feel things.

ever since you left

the world looks

like a ‘70’s movie

where everything moves

s l o w

and the colors

are dull.

i hope you come back

for me

to make me smile

again

tuck my hair

behind my ear

but i hope you don’t

because i will fly

and then be buried

six feet under.

the ground is cold

but if you lie very still

you don’t feel it.

so i stare at a screen

shove plastic in my ears

til my eyes

droop closed.

my heart probably

hurts

but i wouldn’t

know.

When you say cheap dopamine and then reference it being expensive I just felt that in my bone marrow. Extensively. The amount I've paid for that fix, I love your words and work so much, and congrats on a top story! ☺️

Stunning. Your dopamine metaphor is doing so much work; wow! Everything flows so cohesively. That 70s simile is like a spell, completely perfect use of the objective correlative. A well deserved, master-craft of a TS. 🎊💕👏😵

Damn this is good. I can’t even pick out a favorite part, because I felt every word. We are all so disconnected from one another, just plugging ourselves into the portal that is a screen. Never fully healing from a heartbreak when there’s so much entertainment at our fingertips to distract us. So we keep starting and stopping an unfinished symphony of heartbreak with new people.

  • Oh my goodness! This was extremely relatable! Such a beautifully written poem!

  • 💔👏❤️✨ You have a gift for heartbreaking poetry (which is both wonderful and not!)! I do think the beauty of life is found when holding these two extreme polarities at their greatest expansion…
