On an October road to nowhere

Obscured by fallen leaves

A phantasm shuffles aimlessly

Beneath rainbow hued scattered trees

----------

This deserted road to who knows where

Overshadowed by denuded boughs

Coated with dying leaves destined to rot

A symbol of once sacred vows

---------

Trembling fingers pluck wild blue rose

It's fragile petals the hue of sad

Thorns pierce mortal flesh

Blue beauty now crimson clad

-----------

Plucked petals, pieces of us

Waft and wend with the breeze

Drift like a willow the wisp

As phantasm falls to knees

-----------

She loves me ...

She loves me not ...

Crumpled rose ... crushed dreams

Tears run free .. salty ... hot

---------

Our two lane highway

Which once we travelled in twain

Led only to a dead end

When alone she boarded that train

heartbreak
