Birthstone
For the Birth Month of September
See the sapphire shining bright
Eternally beautiful, like your soul
Pulling in, charming those around you
To make them a part of your following and
Enhancing your natural power and glamour,
Mesmerizing the world
Beyond the point of resistance
Effortlessly falling to your feet without
Resistance
* * *
But like the sapphire, there is a flaw to your cut
In the way that others have shaped your perfection
Ruining what could have conquered the world
Taking it and breaking it down to its barest elements
Helpless shards that no one wants
Dangerous to touch, yet still tempting to see
A beauty beneath but nothing to behold
You’ll show them still what you can be

Author’s note: This poem is in honor of my recently deceased mother’s birthday, September 10th. Her birthstone is sapphire, which happens to be my favorite gem. This poem is also for Mike Singelton’s Song of Seven Challenge, which can be found at this link.

Such a beautiful ode to a beautiful soul. We should celebrate lives, easy to say when we feel not another's pain. But still we bless their journey and the one who celebrates. Blessings on the journey forth. 😇🤗
I'm sorry for your loss Stephanie!! This as so beautifully penned!! Sapphires are one of my favourite stones, I actually have them in my wedding ring! 😅 Congrats on Top Story!!
My birthstone is my favourite colour!
This is such a lovely tribute (and great acrostic!) to your mother, Stephanie. I'm so sorry that you lost her recently. Congrats on your Top Story!

Beautiful poem and beautiful image
Oh my goodness, this poem felt like a gentle lead in that turned deeply emotional and personal, especially after reading about your Mother. Firstly, I am so so sorry for your loss. I really can't even imagine that kind of loss. I would be devastated if I lost my mother. Secondly, this is an amazing tribute poem to her, but also an incredible poem on it's own. Deeply relatable - and as a geology student I loved all the references to the properties of sapphire itself interwoven with the themes of the poem. This is a stand out poem for me. Incredible work, Stephanie. Your mom would have loved this. <3
Beauty, I suppose, is never the whole story.
I love sapphires. Happy heavenly birthday to your mom. This is a great dedication to her.
Such a lovely poignant poem, Stephanie! My best friend’s birthday is Sept.8 and I gave her a sapphire ring as a present 20 years ago. She still wears it. It’s a beautiful stone.
Happy birthday to your mother <3
Sapphires are beautiful gems. Lovely poem, Stephanie
