One
Once I asked you quietly to come across my body like a wave moving in
To bring your self to me like water through sand
To bring the sun's light through your eyes and
to let love flow and begin
To share with the drunk and forgotten ones
who can see the glow; who can feel what's missing.
The old drunk greets us as if he'd recognize love anywhere
and passes us the bottle and we drink
Because he understands
And we know how sunlight carries love
And we dare to lose ourselves
among the rustlings, whisperings, and heartbeats
contained under the mauve dusk
And midnight sky
To wake in love on the beach.
