Believe Me Then

a poem about fascism

By CT IdlehousePublished about a year ago 1 min read

When I am bleeding out...

When my blood spills on the ground...

When they're loading another round...

Will you believe me then?

/

When the molotovs light up the dark...

When the bombs start blowing up cars...

When the purges truly start...

Will you believe me then?

/

When the news stations disappear...

When you can't sleep for the fear...

When you're losing all you hold dear...

Will you believe me then?

/

When there's bodies in the trees...

When you smell lime on the breeze...

When the mass graves fill up quickly...

Will you believe me then?

/

When women are being raped...

When children are taken away...

When your loved ones are passing away...

Will you believe me then?

/

When you lose all of your rights...

When you're deemed an unwanted slight...

When you're put on the firing line...

Will you believe me then?

/

When the crusade's in full swing...

When you can't escape the cleansing...

When you're arrested for mere existing...

Will you believe me then?

/

When your children are given to predators...

When the unwanted ones are loaded into chambers...

When the American flag is in cinders...

Will you believe me then?

/

When democracy is a pipe dream...

When you are stripped of your humanity...

When you become another casualty...

Will you believe me then?

/

None of this has to be reality...

Vote like your life's in jeopardy...

Tell the fascists this isn't their country...

Make America the land of the free again.
