After
Before,
This air would burn my eyes,
And my eardrums would echo discomfort.
Before,
This crowd would stifle my hope,
And shove my sense of self to the corner.
Before,
I spoke with landmines in my throat,
That exploded with silence.
Before,
My inner demons would cling to the edges of my sanity,
And play kickball with my thoughts.
Before.
Before.
Before.
But then You appeared.
You appeared,
Like a mirage in the desert of people,
Whose writhing bodies swayed to your aura,
And parted to reveal the oasis in your eyes.
You appeared,
Like the promised new sun,
A dawn beautified by the night’s storm.
You appeared,
Like a dream,
That persisted through the shock of awakening,
You appeared,
And all I know is peace.
