Beckenham
Suburban setting nestled in a corner of Kent

Oh, little hamlet by the Beck,
With lush green spaces, parks and Rec.
Coffee bars and breakfast places,
Help to give folk happy faces.
A Travelodge with lots of beds,
For visitors to lay their heads.
A church with lychgate, as old as can be,
Tall tower with flag of St George to see.
Beckenham is such a welcoming town,
Why not come visit us, make it quite soon?

In honour of National Poetry Thursday 3 October 2024, I thought I would dedicate a ditty to the place in the south eastern suburbs of London where I currently live. Historically, part of the county of Kent, which throughout history has welcomed visitors to its shores from Europe, Africa and greater Asia. These of course include the first English peoples to arrive and settle, from the fifth century. The degree of welcome has varied over the centuries, according to the intentions of the visitors and the varying moods of the Kentish.

It describes the place to a 'T'. Good work,
Oh wow, that sure does sound like a wonderful place to visit and stay! Loved your poem!
