Beautiful Creature
The Lure of Moonlight

The creature came to me in the guise of a dream
Whilst the moon was high and a dampness hung in the night so fine
Still, after many long years, I question if it was how it did seem.
Herein this poem lies the dream-filled tale, wrapped evermore within my heart’s mind.
********
The creature looked at me beyond the obvious, and I felt myself shiver amidst
The deepness of his eyes, ever penetrating and piercing in the midnight blue.
Under the intensity of a gaze that bespoke mysteries that could never be missed,
I shuddered, and I awaited, beyond any doubt, a new reckoning anew.
In the depths of crystal blue, I saw a hunger, a pure lake of desire
That filled me with a deep-seated longing for something new and unknown,
Inside me grew a raging and encompassing newly stoked fire
Fueled purely by his gaze, and with unabashed hunger, I heard myself moan.
I felt a haunting deep in my soul until my eyes stung with a fine mist of tears
Still, I was curious and enticed beyond any measure I'd yet known.
He crept slowly toward me, and I realized his purpose, much too evidently clear,
I stood rooted where I was, lest the impetus of his purpose be sown.
The line of his beautiful mouth hardened as his blue eyes deepened to black.
Transfixed and unable to breathe, I watched in fascination as he drew near
Until I felt the chill of his breath as he sighed, poised on the precipice of an attack
I was bewitched as enlightenment of his purpose became abundantly clear.
He was no simple mortal known to mankind, here amidst the moon filled dark
Instead I saw a creature beautifully formed betwixt the night and the light.
He leaned ever closer to me, his gaze intent as his mouth found its mark.
Unashamed, I fell into him, no desire to resist, for I knew this was my plight.
I succumbed to the thrill of his touch and the chill of his mouth as he imbibed
Drawing from me the warmth of the blood that ran magnificently red,
With dawning awareness, I realized that evermore our two worlds would collide
Into an unknown, unchangeable eclipse of a moment I neither feared nor did dread.
He lifted his coal black eyes of desire, gazing deeply into dazed eyes of green,
I was reminded of the dark depths of the the lake that just outside quietly stood
So strong was the undeniable, unquenchable need for more that I’d seen
That I grasped ahold of him, pleading, begging him to take from me all that he could.
Oh beautiful creature of darkness and light, mark me forevermore
With your touch of ice, your cold breath, and your stealthy lightness of foot,
Make me yours on this earth and beyond, until I die with the truth of your lore;
My mind screamed, my heart beat, as the unbidden, ravenous thought took root.
A grimace of a smile deliberately formed upon his brutal, yet handsome visage
Until he stepped back and gave me a look of pure longing so vivid
That my heart skipped a beat, feeling the immensity of the privilege;
But after a moment, he quietly withdrew, and the need for him steadily lifted.
As the creature disappeared into the liquid, black ink of the dark evening
I looked about as my awareness slowly returned, still amazed and in wonder
With thoughts anew at what I had just seen. Despite knowledge that it was deceiving,
My being and mind merged, and my heart broke until it split thoroughly asunder.
Beautiful creature of darkness and light, come back to me, my heart silently cried.
I long for the vivid, deep blue of your eyes and the black of your soul,
I will give you the richness of my blood evermore if you will but draw nigh.
Please return on the wings of the night, gifting back my heart that you stole.
Now in the stillness of the dark night, many long years beyond that first time,
I feel the blue of his piercing look, the chill of his breath, and the touch of his mouth,
And I long for he who invaded the still of moonlight as into my heart he did climb,
Creating a vortex within my soul, as for all eternity, my love for any other he did douse.
