Beating Shades

Self Discovery

By Nala Grayson (Patterson)Published 5 years ago 1 min read
Painted this in high school when I was discovering myself

Young eyes,

Told me to feel black & white

Easy mind

Influenced by all that claim right

Curious with questions

Questions that bring light

Millions of suggestions

Bring colors so bright

It started with a simple gray

Knowing it is quite shady

The more time I pay

Purple reveals I'm a Demi

I won't go through all the colors

As they are my timeline

What I have discovered

Black and white isn't the only love-kind

This heart is still growing

Just like our maple trees

Living in the seasons, uncontrolling

Complexions that put us at ease

As my one small beating journey shows,

Through all its crazy clues.

Each one of us is a rose.

Which comes in different hues.
