Be Like Water

A poem

By Felicia MariePublished 4 years ago 1 min read

Be Like Water

To be like water

Is to flow

With nature

And take the form of whatever comes your way.

It does not resist

Or yield

To the course that lies ahead.

Water simply progresses forward.

The stones and littered fragments of trees

Become smooth, almost softened

By the power

And continuance of a river’s energy.

Lakes find stillness

And become a container

For the life that exists beneath,

And sanctuary for what lives above

And around its surface.

How many storms the ocean encounters.

It swells and crashes as if to dance with the wind,

Blasting the shore with twists and turns.

Yet, it always finds peace in the aftermath.

Rubble of seaweed, driftwood and broken shells are all that remain

Of the conflict.

To be like water

Is to harness its energy:

Always find the path

That leads you forward.

flow with life,

Meet obstacles with a sort of tenderness

That softens the sharp edges.

And to not let the storms

Steal away your peace.
