Bad writing rarely sleeps.
It can’t be said to have a point of view.
Without quotes or dialogue, it’s a person with no face.
It can be said to have a voice,
An inflection or an attitude, as if it is
Telling you something in person.
But that’s not writing.
That’s being in person, and, odd as it may seem,
Is what makes bad writing good.
*
A bad writer doesn’t have a style. He has a voice.
There is nothing to learn from bad writers.
With bad writing, the reader is inside the writer’s head,
Where there are no thoughts, only feelings and emotions and images
That don’t mean anything but still make you feel something.
This is why bad writing is good.
*
There are no rules with it.
It’s like free jazz, or free love, or the freedom to walk where you want
And not get shot by cops for being black.
It’s something that makes sense when you’re stoned.
Which you should be right now because I really don’t
Want to be responsible for you reading any more of my bad writing.
