“Everyone has a price” …at which they turn into a completely different person, or simply lets the true colors show. The power money holds over us humans is quite a serious matter.

"Everyone has a price"

I disagree

Because that "everyone" doesn't include me

Am I lying?

No

Go ahead, give me a number

There's no amount that can buy me

No number I can sell my soul to

And no bidder I can belong to

Because where my treasure is, there my heart is

And who will I be then?

Whoever the buyer wants me to be?

What are morals if they're money motivated?

I know wealth holds no sin in it of itself

But the lust for all that looks lavish is the root of all vice

And the day I exchange my contentment for crude currency is the very same in which my wage will be death itself

On the day that this day and age come to an end-

What riches I will have had here will rot away when I lay on the other side of the grave

Am I here merely to be bought?

No

Is my purpose purely to be purchased with pelf?

No

Is it worth it?

Giving my individuality up for someone else's personal investment

No

For fame?

No

Fortune?

No

I'm not to be auctioned off

And my life is not for sale

So, no-

I don't have a price

  • Whoaaa, this was so freaking powerful! So in love with your poem!

  • Loved this… it resonates a lot. I think we can only truly know what our price is m, or if we have one, when we have nothing. When we are reduced to survival mode - do our morals crumble? Are they but a mental construct of the comfortable ego? Do we relax on what we believe to be right when hunger takes hold?
