I notice the unpaid car bill before the date hits me as your birthday.

Last year, I made the payment for maybe the fourth month in a row,

waited for another drunk call to come through

angry, sad, missing me and only occasionally okay with admitting it.

Now, I don't want your slurred words over the phone,

and I don't care what you may or may not admit.

I don't wish you a happy birthday or happy anything at all;

I only wish, at 25, you'd grow up and pay your damn bills on time.
