Are You There?
questions from the lost and broken

“Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and I will help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." - Isaiah 41:10
Are you even still up there?
Over there? Under there?
Anywhere?
You were there once, wherever you are
Seems you’re gone now …
Perhaps what they say is true
Did we, through our unbelief
Kill you?
The almighty and everlasting ...
Maybe we made you nothing?
Like Zues and Odin, Ra, even Huītzilōpōchtli
One by one faded into myth and legends
Tales we tell to explain our origins
Learning life lessons from them
But never believing more ... anymore
Are you only there when we believe?
Is it me? Is my belief not enough?
Perhaps I am the one who killed you
Killed the you within my own soul and mind
Or am I just unworthy now … like they say
I thought I was finally the me you wanted
The me that should have been
A daughter of Eve, a child of heaven
But lately, to my shame and tears
I ask the question … Are you there God?
“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” - Isaiah 40:31

Good question and excellent poem
Very moving: questioning is a mortal right.
