Apostrophe

Original Art by Teresa J. Lavender

I am an apostrophe, an addendum, an afterthought,

possibly unnecessary, perhaps irrelevant,

I am lost in the wake, a sunspot

I am an enigma, a well placed comma. I am hidden in the shadows, lost in the debris

indifferent, insignificant, waiting to be found.

I am the one at the window, I am the one looking over your shoulder,

I am the one, always one, always alone, yet so much more than nothing

I am, yet so often feel I am not

Misplaced, displaced, erased

I am the lost puzzle piece. I am the sign on the highway advertising a place you will never go

I am the message you will never read

I am the answer you don't want to hear, I am truth

I am the dust mote in the ray of sunshine

I bleed tears, and fears, desperate to pick up the pieces and put them back together, but unsure what I will create

I am the chance you overlooked

I am the lost opportunity

I am the void, devoid

Words fill my ears, words racing through my brain, words tumbling out of my mouth, onto the page.

and yet . . . .
