Aperire (Not Legs, Art)

For Showers and Fools - A Mikeydred April Dollar Prompt For All Vocal Creators - Did I understand or misunderstand the assignment? Do I care? Do You?

So April comes from the Latin "aperire"

A word that means to open, but not legs

Tho' Romans associated April with Venus

And Greeks associated April with Aphrodite

So maybe legs should be opened for April?

This started as a pretty ode to the month

To the real start to spring and sunshine

to rebirth and regrowth and yet I still

I still can't get my head to think about

About anything but Venus's legs ajar

like a door, ready with opportunity

Or Aphrodite's long pale pins gaping

unfastened, the little robing she had on

unburdened, the little flesh she was hiding

Open and ready with opportunity, new beginnings

with enough spark to light my kindling

if I had kindling, which I do not, at present

As April turns to May, as we say

farewell, adios, auf wiedersehen to the dark

to the dark and the chilling cold of winter

to the stirring and the warming that summer

will bring to open the door to possibility

like the opening of the legs of a Goddess

the messiness of April will soon overlap

with the surety that May seems to bring

If any month insists upon itself, it's

May the dancing never stop at least until

we reach the end of December and the dawn

of a new year, with new prospects without

forgetting all that we have still to see

this year, as we live it, breathe it

"oh those legs

Inhale Exhale

damn those legs

Inhale Exhale

those thighs, those legs

Inhale Exhale

oh to touch

Just Breathe

oh to caress

Just Breathe (Inhale and exhale breathing sounds after each line)

and convalesce

(though the) creeping shadows and (while the) weeping willows

pale impurity

(as the) sleeping hollows and (though the) reaping follows

delectability

(while the) cleaving fallows and (as the) leaving shallows

oh those legs

(no more) dying hallows

damn those legs

Inhale Exhale

your thighs, your legs

Inhale Exhale

second only to

Inhale Exhale

oh those breasts

Just Breathe

your breasts, your chest

Just Breathe (Inhale and exhale breathing sounds after each line)

your cheeks, your ass

as the band it plays on and the piper welcomes dawn

inscrutability

as the poet speaks his truth and the words become your proof

enraptured and captured

as the song continues on - endless and the singers harmonise regardless

my vision is blindsided with passion and lust

know that with every ending there is a new beginning

for all that you give, all that you are

Just Breathe

from head to toe, oh those toes

Inhale Exhale

oh that head, that brain

Inhale Exhale

past breasts to thighs to calves

Inhale Exhale

from shoulders to coccyx to ass cheeks

Just Breathe

beholden I am of the majesty

entrapped and enraptured"

with May on the horizon, may we try in vain

to not be an asshole, when we look at people

we have a physical attraction to - remember

remember, we are not Pablo Picasso

he could walk anywhere, stare at anyone

but Pablo Picasso was never called an asshole

are we modern lovers? are we modern lovers

are we art? are we Devo? I think we're art

Thanks for reading!

Author's Notes: This poem is a response to Showers And Fools - A Mikeydred April Dollar Prompt For All Vocal Creators, which you can find out more about by following the link below. For reference, the Picasso line is a nod to Jonathan Richman and Modern Lovers and their awesome song Pablo Picasso. There is also a nod to Devo. Although it mostly counts as a stream, because I wrote the bulk after looking into where we get the word April from, I did have the whole section in speech marks sitting in my WIP folder, and felt it fitted as a nice diversion.

Most recent fiction piece - very proud of it - it's a long read. Not sorry.

This is well written, thoughtful, funny, and a little erotic all at once. Great work!

  • So we don't even need to include "Sesame"? Just saying, "aperire," will lead to all this? My, my!

Now you've got me thinking about open legs 😉😉 For us on the upside down part of the world, April is the start of doom and gloom of winter. I actually like winter though. There is nothing better than a fierce lightshow caused by lightning cracking and thunder clapping. As always there is that touch of naughtiness - great read!
