Yesterdays Nothing To Do With Tomorrow

Yesterday has nothing to do with tomorrow,

That is what the silence taught my skin,

Love lives in moments that rot quickly,

Then asks forgiveness for settling in.

I prayed with my hands empty,

And called it faith instead of fear,

Your name echoed through the dark,

Like something holy disappearing here.

We loved without permission,

Under stars that never judged,

Tomorrow watched from a distance,

Unwilling to be touched.

Your breath was a borrowed promise,

Mine a debt I could not pay,

Yesterday burned the bridge behind us,

And smiled as it walked away.

Spiritual hunger made us reckless,

We fed it with bone and breath,

Calling the ache devotion,

Calling devotion death.

I held your shadow at sunrise,

It slipped through my hands like smoke,

Tomorrow arrived without mercy,

And never explained the joke.

Yesterday still owns my heartbeat,

Even when time pretends it does not,

Love remembers what futures deny,

And keeps what tomorrow forgot.

So let the days stay divided,

Let time refuse to agree,

Yesterday had you in its arms,

then that is enough for me.

I think we are nothing if we forget our past. Just it should not make our tomorrow gloomy.
