Another Flower in the Sun
Ode to the Sunflow
Amongst the weeds
and the TALL grass
sits another flower
growing in the sun
s t r e t c h i n g
blooming
drinking
in the purest rays
of liquid gold
while its roots
dig shallow
trails beneath
the hard-packed soil.
Amongst the weeds
and the TALL grass
another flower greets the dawn
a golden compass
searching
turning
tracking
the passage of time
in its arc across the sky
till twilight swoops in
and tucks it's petals in
to await another
rising sun.
Amongst the weeds
and the TALL grass
another flower grows
along the roadside
watching
waiting
wondering
if today will be the day
it's chosen
plucked from the soil
before it withers
like all the other
flowers in the sun.
Amongst the weeds
and the TALL grass
sits a beautiful flower
embodying the sun
shining
blossoming
PROUD
growing high above the rest
to remind us that even
simple and ordinary things
can be beautiful
as it dutifully follows
the sun.
