Annie

"It is ok, I've got you."

By Katherine ShannonPublished 5 years ago 1 min read
My beautiful Annie

Strings, those were her favorite thing to play with and chew on.

Tags, she loved to chew on tags too.

I'd have to cut the strings off of fabric that's fraying.

I'd have to cut the tags off of toys, blankets, and cat beds for you my dear.

You were always so mischievous.

Your vivacious spirit always made me smile and laugh.

Tiny paws pitter patter on the floor in my room up the steps to the bed.

Tiny paws lay on my legs.

Oh how cute you are my little green eyed wonder.

As I cut the gauze to clean your wounded leg.

You look up at me and I say "It is ok, I've got you"

These scissors of mine have cut many things for you.

Never have I thought I'd be doing wound care on my Annie!

Annie, I am so sorry it has come to this.

To hold you one last time would be a dream.

I don't know how to say goodbye.

Watching you struggle to breathe was the hardest thing for me to see.

As I snipped locks of hair from your fur as a keep sake you laid motionless on the exam room table.

The veterinarian checked for a pulse one last time.

Only to say you were gone.
