Angel Went Home

A tribute to Aaliyah on the 23rd anniversary of her death

By Joe PattersonPublished about a year ago 1 min read

Over two decades ago I would never forget this day.

You had so much left to say and yet you left away.

Resting between a Cessna’s wings you departed from the ground.

But when those wings took flight you never came back down.

Not gonna lie. For the month all I did was cry.

I couldn’t believe the reality that Aaliyah had died.

She was the closest thing we had to an Angel on earth.

But Heaven was the better turf and The Lord knew her worth.

One in a million who touched a world of billions.

More than a woman and the best thing comin’.

Every time we hear your tracks we wish we could get you back.

We miss you so much and that’s a matter of fact.

The most angelic spirit that our generation has ever known.

We will never forget the day the angel went home.

~Dedicated to Aaliyah Dana Haughton.
