An ode to my friends

As I drive on this lonely road

I see a group of birds

Flying in unison

Making pirouettes in the sky

traversing the clouds with patience and possibility

I mesmerize at their unity,

at their glory

And I think of u

How

When I feel alone

When my own thoughts betray me

And I am lost

You make me whole

Assort the broken pieces into beautiful bouquets

Releasing vibrant flowers through the delicate cracks

When I feel like I’m wasting away

You rejuvenate me with your laughs

Your awkward caresses

Your serendipitous mistakes

Your giving smiles

I look at you and I am reminded

That love fills the spaces between us,

That love shields us

That love exists

You are a mirror that reflects the beauty it sees

And a gem that shines and writes beauty into existence

Like a dream you exist

Both real and divine

To witness you

Your blossoming

Your becoming

How it defines times

Is a gift that cannot be exhausted

You are my home

You are everything

Being with you is what reminds me what’s it like

To move with life

In the car I reflect

On the flying birds

That fly as fast as this car drives

Yet still appear to be frozen in time

And I think

I know what that feels like
