Sun and Moon play chess on a leaf-shaped board, each move echoing the balance of the equinox.
🎭 Poetry of the Equinox Duel
Sun observes: Then takes his turn
"On this hallowed hour, the world stands still,
A golden silence - night by day sustained.
Each fleeting chess move checks summer’s will".
Moon laughs heartily:
"Doth thee quote our good Shakespeare, trying to distract me
from this worthy game?
For yet, I ask not how but what remains?
There is a harmony to night's refrain;
A tug from darkness - balanced, billowed, deep.
In amber chess...a promise of great gain".
Moon makes his move, swiping Suns knight from off the board
"Cad". He pouts.
Sun counter moves...down went a bishop
"Aha".
"Where fragile leaves, within such stillness, keep.
The odds are even, daylight seeks its mate;
The sun, the moon must both endure their due".
Moon squints and Sun thinks.
A stalemate - forever turn, an endless fate,
As cycles turn again, refreshed, renewed".
Are we speaking of the game or the equinox
Both, as it would seem. Answered Moon.
Oh turn by turn, we claim that half-lit line,
The chess-hued hour when light and dark align.
And so they stood and shook each others hands.
As both observed a stalemate upon the sky.
No one wins...they both agreed.
The seasons have a mind of their own.
