An Ascent

Thoughts On Being There For Others

By Mike Singleton πŸ’œ Mikeydred Published 3 years ago β€’ 1 min read

Introduction

I wanted to write a poem about arriving on an island and climbing the mountain at its centre and arriving at the summit. Ideally, the cinquain should be visually centred to give it a visual identity as well as a lyrical one.

I found a cinquain where the basic verses had a connecting word so I am going to attempt this with just basic centring, with a screenshot of the centred text as the Vocal editor does not yet include justification although I am sure it will eventually come.

The music is "An Ending (Ascent)" by Brian Eno from "Apollo"

  • You are painting a world I wish to visit, a beach I long to rest upon in the shadow of a mountain full of promise. I love reading your work, Mike! It is always so welcoming, inspiring, and sophisticated.

Those who say that it's lonely at the top haven't turned around to give others a hand. There is plenty of space πŸ€—
