Always Be Ready To Say Goodbye To Anything

Have you ever heard, here today, gone tomorrow

It’s a saying I never took to heart all that much,

Until recently when I suffered a painful loss

I thought about this old saying and others such.

It highlighted the fact that impermanence is constant

It is one of a very few things you can really count on,

It seems a lot of the times it comes as a terrible shock

Here one perfect minute and then the next it’s gone.

This is a lesson I wish I had learnt when very young

As it may have saved me from a lot of heartbreak,

If not the pain, then at the very least the shock

It would allow acceptance to ease the heartache.

***

Always be ready to say goodbye to anything

As it’s possible you could lose it at anytime,

Don’t take too much for granted, I plead

Losing suddenly causes a shift in the paradigm.

***

Live in the now, full of today’s mindfulness

As tomorrow could see the entire lot lost,

Could you cope if this was to happen to you

Or maybe you will fight no matter the cost?

***

So let me quickly give you a full blown recap

Don’t take for granted, or hold on too tight

As it could see you hanging on by a shoestring.
