Alone in the Brightest City

Written by Edvin Sterling

By Edvin SterlingPublished 6 months ago 1 min read

The moon is dancing in front of my window.

I watch and feel alone in its light.

The city awakens as the night settles in.

I want to do one thing right.

I want to feel like I’m someone.

I want to feel special in somebody’s heart.

In the brightest, happiest city,

I still feel alone and dark.

I never had someone to confide in.

I never had anybody to rely on.

I wish I would fit in somewhere.

Some other place than on my own.

In the warmth of my home.

The city lights blind me.

The moon is still up above.

Even it has the Sun as a friend.

Only I. I don’t have anyone.

No one to share jokes with.

Nobody to hear me speaking.

Not a soul around me. I am always alone.

I constantly have this feeling.

This feeling that this is how it will end.

I’ll always search the road to happiness.

I’ll always search for clues to know more

About my useless existence.

No matter how many “Hi!” I hear,

The smiles I feel, I’ll experience loneliness.

The friendly advice, the tired eyes,

That hoard eternal tiredness.

They will always feel not enough,

Constant comparing with me.

I wish this would finally stop,

So I can live in peace.

And let my true self be...
