Alone
This poem is meant to be performed as a spoken word piece.
Alone.
This is what it feels like to be
Alone.
Is it peace? A gift?
Or is it brutality? A sentence?
Alone.
It's all you ever wanted-
Until you got it.
Now there’s only static.
It's just you
And the deafening silence
That entombs you as you scream all
Alone.
This is what you wanted, right?
Freedom with no echoes.
Space with no footprints.
The quiet hum of a world that doesn’t need you,
Doesn’t wait for you,
Doesn’t even bat an eye when it leaves you
Alone.
At first, it felt like a kingdom.
A throne of solitude, a crown of peace and quiet.
But soon the silence grows fangs.
They gnaw at your edges
And the quiet creeps into your bone's marrow.
The solipsism first turns into walls
And soon those become mirrors.
Alone.
Where do you run when the only thing chasing you is yourself?
Where do you hide from the darkness when you are the shadow?
How do you escape when you built the cage and swallowed the key?
Who will save you if you're
Alone.
But perhaps it’s not a prison?
Maybe it’s more like a womb,
The rebirth of the Phoenix
Letting fire forge the way
Toward something new
That springs to life from the ashes
Shaping steel from the silence,
Turning echoes into melodies.
Maybe alone isn’t the end.
Maybe it’s only the beginning.
