All The Wonder

To the Beauty of Luna

Dear Luna

-

I have seen wonders of rock and chasms of awe

Rivers and waterfalls, lakes, seas, and oceans

I have climbed peaks made by God and towers by man

To behold views that catch one's breath in the chest

I have driven cross-country and flown high in the sky

And watched reverently the landscape vary ‘round me

-

-

But then

-

I see you rise into the dusky blue sky

As evening fades and we bid the sun adieu

And I am mesmerized by your beauty unmatched

You climb slowly over rocky peaks into view

Constant and unchanged and yet always different

What will I see tonight when you peak through the clouds?

-

-

I wait

-

A sliver, a shimmer of light barely there

Or a crescent to cradle the dreams of a child

Will you be of two minds, half light and half dark?

Maybe you'll fatten your belly, widen your glow

And if we are lucky, you'll throw off your shadow

Bathing us in the fullness of your silver light

-

-

Oh Luna!

-

I feel the pull of your power, moving the tides

Drawing forth canines to bay loud their devotion

Boiling the blood in the veins of creatures of night

And bursting the hearts of young lovers entangled

Your ebb and your flow are the rhythm of it all

Enthralling us, controlling them, watching the night

My Luna

The most beautiful of all the wonders I've seen

Nicely done and congratulations on Top Story. I enjoyed the line breaks. They add emphasis and feeling. There are a lot of lines I really liked, but I'll point out "...a crescent to cradle the dreams of a child..." as particularly lovely. Easy, enjoyable read!

Ah AJ. You've done the one thing that borea me so often about these kinds of poems and smashed it..I love this cos it feels like it came from your heart so that gave it more authenticity. All the details were through your lens like all your poems and even stories to an extent. Loved it my friend mystery magic and just bloody lovely. Was going to read this anyway but glad I'm reading it as a Top Story.

  • This has captured the mystique of the moon well, AJ. A truly beautiful letter.

It is beautiful, isn't it, the moon? And your poem is a true ode to its presence. Good luck in the challenge.

A wonderful tribute to the moon, A.J. Even knowing what it is, there's something unknowable about it, isn't there, which adds to its allure?
