Alchemical Queerness / Queering Gold
This piece references alchemical transformation and the hell and heaven that it can put you through. It is not unlike the experience of understanding and learning how to embody one's queerness or ever changing/shifting identity. I wish to thank the ancient alchemists and deities of Hermaphrodite and Dionysus for being archetypes of true embodiment, without a binary being necessary. These folks rejoiced and basked in the human experience of embracing all aspects of self, spirit, and soul. There are seven steps of alchemical transformation. The ones I reference are Calcination, Conjunction, and Coagulation. I know it may be vague in places, but this piece is written with those spaces in mind in which there is vagueness within identity, and how acknowledging that we are fluid entities can be a spiritual experience rooted in the mundane.
heat, Sunshine, and a cowboy hat
am I a sunboy
in these short shorts
and sports bra of a shirt
doting upon my grief
listening to beats and sucking the cbd smoke
to quell my repressed nerves and deniable sadnesses
waiting for my skin to turn to Gold
as if the Snake in me came to Mother
my wavering essences of “identity”
shaking slightly from
the self imposed cascara elixir
waiting for my skin to turn to Gold,
as if by alchemy manifest
tattoos and stoicism emanating proudly
on this day of fiery Sun
forever pondering the elasticity of my mood
and how its continuum spirals…
independent of weather
or however many aiding substances consumed
drink water, oh dearest sunboy
a surrender to my oversoul
Calcinates me once more
ever more…
giving me over to my ego’s battle
between Heart & Mind
Sun & Gold
the elemental accompaniment
to my (alchemical) Conjunction
rectify me
while sweating and reading erotica
to feel my senses ooze
a sensual queerness
to help my embodiment of fluidity
Hermaphrodite knew how to do this
they and them with an all encompassing balance
between the shadow and the illuminated
within & without the existence
of a separated & differentiated binary
a Solar & Lunar Coagulation
Manifesting
and materialising on this Earthplane
like Dionysus being twice born
to thus die and rise again
Ritualising and following the Rhythms
Of Life, Death, and the bridge Between
thus evermore being Fluid
in essence and existence
this skin sheds again
and turns to Gold
as a sunboy I remain
evermore & changing
