Here's my entry:
Acritochromacy: color blindness
My Connection: I have lived with two forms of this condition my entire life. I was born with the first, and it's only partial. I'm red/green color blind, which isn't exactly what people tend to think it is, at least in my case. I've adapted, and it works to my advantage in a weird way. The second type is the product of my early childhood, in a small, Arizona border town with a wonderful mix of skin colors. As children, it was the last thing that stood out about our friends, although we talked frankly to each other about it, as kids do. I'm fortunate and grateful to have learned that kind of color blindness.
My poem:
I Can't See Your Color
White ain't white when you're talking paint.
You think it is, but I promise it ain't.
Additive, subtractive, the method don't matter,
I can see the difference in each streak or splatter.
---
The “base tint” you start with is blue or yella'
And the difference is obvious to this old fella.
I'm lucky, you see, cause I've got a weird mind
And one other advantage: I'm color blind!
---
White ain't white either, when it comes to skin
And I don't care what color skin you're in.
Be a good person, to earn my respect,
And we'll get along just fine, I suspect.

Brilliant take on the challenge 😁
Brilliant… on two levels 🤩✅.
Loved this Dana, really speaks to the kind of person you are!! 💚
What a brilliant world choice and explanation of multiple meanings!! Great work, Dana!
I am green/blue color blind. The other side of the coin is a whole other shade of thought, depending on where you live. Lovely poem.
Oh I love this!!
I can hear this being recited by an ol' fella in a hat. Maybe with a fishing rod in his hands, or a guitar.
Omgggg, that blew my mind! I've never thought if colour blindness in that way but I'm so glad I'm colour blind that way! Loved your poem!
Aha, I learned a new word. I was just discussing yesterday with someone the advantages of color-blind soldiers in WWII surveying aerial photos. Great stuff, Dana.
Love this! Love this! I also love the rather honest aside at the end "I suspect" because...maybe not. But, maybe yes! But yes, racism made to look stupid in one poem. Love the word...had not heard of it before. Loved your very Dana anecotal connection to it and your wonderful words! :)
