1.

Cleaning the Forest Floor

Trundling hills of leaves—

smoke billows on a clothesline

—soon fold into flames.

2.

Christening the Fireplace

Logs, spheres of the news,

Spark, fire, smoke—smoke everywhere—

Ah, the vent was closed!

3.

Perceiving the First Moment of Spring

The sun reminds me

“Behold, I’m a ball of fire!

Flowers salute me.”

4.

Lighting the Summer Sky

Golden glass ocean…

Our bonfire is a signal

To the night only.
