A Walk in a Cloudy City

A poem

Clouds had settled over the tops of the skyscrapers

as if to keep the city enclosed in a grey bubble.

The gleam of the glass windows was dull

since the only light for them to reflect was grey.

People assumed that smartphones were the reason

why nobody gazed up at the sky,

but in this city, the real reason was that

the sky never showed itself at all.

I should have been glad to be walking without

an umbrella in my hand, like most other days,

but the city was just as cold and lifeless without rain.

The steps of the people I passed were monotonous,

automatic, with no will or passion behind their movements.

Right, left,

right left,

right left.

Such a vivid portrayal of a city trapped in monotony and grey. Your words beautifully capture the somber mood and the lifeless routine of urban life.
