The excitement is too much to bear,

and emotions spread throughout the room.

Next, each day becomes about learning —

understanding life

to gain knowledge of how it’s truly lived.

From there, you begin to figure yourself out,

making choices that fit your character.

Then you go into the wind,

hoping to earn stripes

that turn into scars.

Now, each day seems to repeat itself,

as living becomes linked to just surviving.

How strange —

the excitement you entered with

tends to fade

as your body begins to do the same.

When the past feels heavier than the future,

you know the time of being present is closing,

with few good mornings left in sight.

The final call comes at different times for everyone.
