A Spring Fling
Is in the air, making me want to sing
Singing in spring
Praying it will bring
Rising sun, so the birds sing
In another joyous day to ring
New growth into this spring thing.
Ground softens, allowing flowers for a spring fling.
A birch tree stand
Nokomis needed a fire starter and
Her son stole a fire from a big, big man
As he ran through a birch stand
the big man threw fire at him. Oh
how he ran through this land
with his escape unplanned
As he asked for help, the birch so bland
helped by telling him to hide behind thee
birch tree, and you will make it back to see
Nokomis, with your fire. The birch tree
markings happened when helping Nokomis
The birch trees are so Grand
The birch stand is a hero to many, a legend.

Author's note: A spring fling brought to mind this story from childhood. There were others at this time of year. Ending winter and beginning of Spring. There is more to this story, but for now, this is enough. ‘Nokomis’ is grandmother in the Ojibwe language
