It's Monday morning
and we are looking at each other
from opposite ends of our thrifted kitchen table.
Our favorite place,
Together and eating.
My waffles are soaked in "too much butter" and your coffee is
"eerily black".
Just the way those things ought to be.

and oh, so simple.
