A Poet May Be
Where is inspiration found?

A poet may be a traveler,
On expedition far and wide,
Seeking out the mythic lands
Where muses might abide
*
Yes, a poet may be a wanderer,
Straying far afield,
Stumbling through transcendent groves
In hope of a timeless yield.
*
A vagabond, too, a poet may be,
Sojourning from the self,
Yearning for untarnished gold
To fill the empty heart's shelf.
*
And a poet may be a refugee,
fleeing unspeakable fear;
A story found amidst the loss,
And a world in every tear.
*
Yet, a poet may be a homebody
Who at the warm hearth dwells
And welcomes in the migrant thought
And listens to the truths she tells.
*
Yes, though a poet may be a traveler,
they need not, from home, take flight,
But may simply leave the window ajar
For the passing muse to alight.

A delightfully thoughtful poem… my favourite lines were: “ But may simply leave the window ajar For the passing muse to alight.”🦋
I feel this is written for me, as I am just beginning my journey with poetry. Great feel throughout the peice
So beautiful, Gabriel! Love how this explored so many possibilities with such well crafted imagery! Very lyrical too, which is no surprise!
This is such a beautiful poem! 😍
You are a fabulous poet, Gabriel. I loved the journey in this poem! And I love the idea of opening a window as an invitation to the muse!
Great poem, Gabriel, I really liked it. I am always impressed by good rhyme, probably because i don't do much free verse. It dances along very nicely. Thank you.
The rhymes within this seamless work of art were clever, giving your poem the perfect flow. Your lyrical muse came out to play today. Loved it!!!
I really loved this one. That fourth stanza in particular was powerful. The image of a world in a tear almost forces a pause. Really well written!
Yes, indeed!
Well done! As one of those homebodies, it feels wonderful to be validated
