A Poem For You

Inspired by Ray Charles’ “A Song for You”

By Earl W. PearlPublished 2 years ago Updated 2 years ago 1 min read

I prayed for second chances in my life and times

I've wrote a lot of poems and made some silly rhymes

I’ve acted out my life on pages

Just not with people watching

So I’m here all alone and I’m writing this poem for you

You’ve formed an image of me that just isn’t me

I seem to be a presence that you never see

So now you’re just a fantasy

And I’m trying hard to let you be

Just sitting here alone as I’m writing this poem for you

You’ve pulled from me the secrets no one else could ever do

I cast my line for you but you weren’t biting

And now I'm so much better, but if my words don't come together

Imagine this the melody for a love I’m sick of hiding

You left me in a place where there's no space or time

I wished you for my wife, not just a friend of mine

When our lives are over, I hope we’ll be together

And remember me writing this poem for you

love poems
