A Piece of Sky

The beauty of nature and self

I dreamed I caught a piece of sky,

I was worried that it may fall.

I held it tenderly in my hands,

Placed it in a crystal ball.

I welcomed it into my home,

Stored it high upon a shelf.

And watched in awe as it passed to me,

It’s message, from sky to self.

*

A ray of sun to light the dark,

Tiny stars to wish upon,

A fluffy cloud to rest weary bones,

Long past the break of dawn.

The robins’ song to soothe my soul,

A crescent moon to bring a smile,

A spring rainfall to remind me that,

It’s okay to cry, every once in a while.

*

And when there came an autumn breeze,

In the crystal it did blow.

And presented to me the beauty of change,

As the raindrops turned to snow.

I held the crystal in my hands,

As its cool chill warmed my heart.

I counted flakes as they did form,

In nature’s perfect art.

*

I awoke to a familiar sound

Outside, among the trees.

The red-breast robin, loud and proud

Its feathers fluffing in the breeze.

I then looked up to see the clouds

And sun rays that painted the sky,

And told myself that when all seems bleak

I need only raise my eyes.

This is so beautiful and touching! Yes, we need but look outside, or up, or sometimes down at our feet. I loved how you "caught" it and put it in a crystal ball and the day (or seasons) flowed to you through it. Congratulations on being on the Leaderboard! 🥳 🥳 🥳

  • Wooohooooo congratulations on your Leaderboard placement! 🎉💖🎊🎉💖🎊

Held my attention from the very first line, great job!

  • I've always known snow gloves but it would be so nice to have sky globes! It would change with the weather and have the sun and moon as well. This was such a cool concept. Loved your poem!

  • A fully cloud/rain/snow globed calendar to remind us of all we truly need.

That is so beautiful and uplifting. I'm sort of the opposite. When I feel troubled, I drive to the harbor and sit near the water. The water has always calmed me. Either way, we both seem to be drawn to nature's beauty. Love this poem.
