A Mothers Heart

Forever Home

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished 4 years ago Updated 4 years ago 1 min read
My Mom and my girls (Home)

You're home!

Come on in, child, give me a hug.

I'm so glad to have you home.

I have some supper on the stove,

please, help yourself to some.

*

So, tell me how you’re doing, honey,

fill me in, all about your day.

You know I love to listen,

I sure have missed your face!

*

It’s true that life gets busy, baby,

hard to believe how fast time flies by.

You know you’re always welcome here,

I'll be your mama all your life!

*

Are you sleeping? You look tired,

is there something I can do?

No, you’re not a bother,

it’s my job to spoil you!

*

There are some slippers in the closet

tee shirts folded in the drawer,

This will always be your home, dear,

I know I’ve told you that before.

*

No matter what you’re doing,

no matter how old you get.

You will always be my baby,

don’t you ever dare forget.

*

Oh, you have to leave so soon?

Here, I packed you some left overs.

Please be safe while you’re driving,

Call me as soon as you get home.

*

Don’t forget how much I love you,

I’m so happy you came by.

Feel free to come back whenever,

you’re welcome sweetheart, anytime!

*

No matter what, I'll be here,

my doors are open, this is your home.

I will always love and protect you,

even long after I’m gone.

Thank you for reading.

Home: that place filled with the ones you love, who love you and sometimes make you crazy.

My mama passed in 2018 . For a time, I lost my way. She was my rock, and my protector, and giver of unconditional love. She taught me to love and be strong. Everyday, I remember her unfailing, never wavering heart and care for me. My desire is to leave the same legacy for my daughters.

I hope you feel her in this poem
