Poetry of the Hunt

Where is he?

I have looked everywhere,

Searched every nook and cranny,

Investigated each sound,

But he is nowhere to be found.

Where is he?

He couldn't have gotten away,

The windows are barred,

The doors are locked,

And only I have the key.

Where is he?

A smile graces my face,

My finger plays with the trigger,

The hunt is getting exciting now,

I love playing with the smart ones.

Where is he?

Wondering if the others have survived this long,

A creak comes across my ears,

I smile,

Knowing the climax is here,

I turn,

Knowing he has made a deadly mistake.

I...

Where is he?

There is no one in front of-

A noise behind me,

Too close,

I raise my gun,

I turn,

But I finally became prey.

All I see is blood and darkness,

Then with a burst of final strength,

I look up with a twisted smile.

There he is.

This one gave me goosebumps! I love how the tension builds with each repetition of “Where is he?” it really pulls the reader deeper into the hunt.

  • The ending was unexpected and intriguing! Nice!
