A Fragile Present
🤍🖤

We spent the best part of a life
Waiting.
Not knowing that the other existed –
Wondering where
We were going.
And how
And now, this year.
Christmas day –
Our first.
There will be no fuss –
No bustle of family
Or exchanging of gifts,
We are a present
To each other—
Present—
Wrapped carefully in brown paper,
Tied with a string.
Nothing fancy.
We are not fancy
People.
We are simple and kind
To each other,
Aware of the fragile beauty
We have unwrapped.
We don’t need the trappings of a Christmas
Tree
Or ornate gold
Baubles,
Or a nodding fat Santa
To know how lucky we are that
Our hearts are made of glass.
Transparent and easily
Broken.
i haven't liked Christmas
in a long time
years gone by
just waiting for your warmth
it's always happened around me
magic left for
more meaningful days
now we will wake
no chaos, no fires
only quiet, passionate
love
built up big
together
with no frills
we gift each other
ourselves
wholly
though not whole
building blocks
for our life to start
this year
i will love christmas
together
no more waiting
no more ocean
no more time
just peace
together
as we piece ourselves
together
Broken.
But whole
In two parts.
