A Forever of Starts

Am I Reaching or Receiving?

I’ve got knotted roots

Their twists and tangles have baffled

Doctors for decades

My branches, they’re gnarled

Crooked and splintered

From reaching out in all weathers

Weathered storms and silence

Some, a teardrop could snap

Others have outlasted my breath

A bungee run of starts

Forever reaching but never

Catching

Landing

Am I reaching or receiving?

I’ve got matted roots

Set in their ways

Tightened in fear

And no route to break free

Each branch, a finger

The nails chipped and bleeding

A forever of starts

The cycle never broken

My hand

Its roots are trapped

In pain and circumstance

I reach the tip

But there is nothing there

With no way out

I tunnel back to the roots

I’ve got warped roots

They’ve lost all direction

Weave webs in desperation

The ones that break free

They can’t get far

Stunted before full light

Their energy

Lost to the wind
