a flower

with blood on the leaves

By angela hepworthPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

to be a flower

is to bend and sway

to blow in the breeze

this way and that

to never get to choose

where the wind takes you

-

to be a flower

is to be light and sweet

colorful and lovely

small and fragile

to be pointed at

seeked out

gawked at

to be loved from afar

destined to be ruined up close

-

to be a flower

is to die slowly

to have parts of yourself torn

ripped away at

to be left to wither

when the sun

once so bright

never shines upon you again

-

to be a flower

is to see yourself everywhere

yet be alone

unable to move or breathe

with stem cracked

with petals torn

with blood on the leaves

This is lovely. Please write a version of this but with poison flowers, too... Delicate, but deadly.

  • Beauty. Wonderful to have for the moment, but doesn't last. Good call, Angela!

Beautiful way of thinking outside of the box. Sometimes being pretty is just a set up for others to disregard the real beauty.

Emotionally beautiful in the sense that I felt very connected to the perspective. Love your poem! 💌
