A Desperate Need for Silence

🎧📻👂 “Make it stop!”

By Grz ColmPublished about a year ago 1 min read
This isn’t what I asked AI for 🫤 - trust me, the first go was far worse..

Shut the f-ront door - so much freakin’ noise I tell ya!

I’ll lose it (I WILL!) if that hideous baby doesn’t stop wahhhhing!

Little birds chirping when I want a nap. Eye twitch!

Elevated stress hormones make me wanna flip-out-psycho-mode,

Nothing to worry about now - just the neighbours’ blaring screamo music! Thanks!

Can’t they turn it the flip down?! I’d like to take their volume control -

Evaluate now, how much longer you can take? I’m giving it 5 minutes; no, 5 seconds: I’m done! - time to disassociate! Uh, sigh. That is some good derealisation..

*

I think I need a lie down after that. Got a bit riled up. Not my experience as such and obviously very exaggerated, yet in later life I’m honestly not big on loud repetitive noises and I tend to startle easily. Ha! Anyway just a bit of a light-hearted entry.

A humorous yet relatable take on the frustration of noisy environments and overstimulation!

I am afraid at my age, I don't like too much noise, but it was a very entertaining poem. -- Well done. I just upgraded to vocal + yesterday, do you know why they didn't give my profile a badge, they have it in the upper right corner but not on my profile.

I love your acrostic - and even though ‘for fun’ - I felt the ‘Eye twitch!’ and ‘flip-out-psycho-mode’ - because I’ve been there way to many times (fortunately my last Psychiatric hospitalisation was 3 years ago - yeah!) With my Bipolar 1 and Complex PTSD I would suffer periods of intense of over-stimulation: visual and auditory. So quite a few hospitalisations were to ‘reset’ my capacity to cope. My escapes to the quiet and calm cream walls of the the small private psychiatric hospital was my saviour. (I am forever thankful that my Dad continues to pay my Health Insurance.) Thank you for writing. It helps me realise how far I have come. Pauline 🌸

Hi Grz ~ Haven't seen you 'round much; now I see why. There's an old nursery rhyme - Pull the ponytail and the attached mouth will close; something like that...! Best to you, j-bud.in.l.a.

How did I miss this? This is awesome. I still love noise, cos I still listen to metal and other more dissonant sounds, but as an older man I feel stressed by unwanted layers of noise, that I didn't not consent to lol! The pic looks like Ryan Reynolds and some sorta pretty girl. What was the original? Well done, sir!

I love the energy in which you wrote this and then the release of that energy towards the end. Great work as always!

  • I love it & the A1 art😃… I thrive on socialising & noise, but even I have my limit!😳😵‍💫🙄

I'm so sorry Grz.... but I laughed so hard at your author's note!! "Got a bit riled up." 🤣 Talk about an artist getting lost I their work!! Love it!! So relatable!! Oh, and the poem was good too!! I appreciated it a lot, although, I am a noise maker! 😅

This is so good that it got my cortisol levels all outta wack! lol! You drew us all right into that chaotic feeling. I need some somatic exercising after it. haha! Great take on the challenge, buddy!

Light hearted you say...I was getting ready to come start some mayhem...you got me riled up and ready to rumble. Shut the f-ront door had me giggling, birds chirp at 4am, my window is open and they wake me up. Yep, Ha, flip, oh the restraint. So funny. The cover pic says it all, AI is picky. Love this a lot.

Love it, I feel you. It gets bad, and then … someone starts hoovering 😳

  • Omggg, I have misophonia and this was so relatable! The sound that triggers me the most are any noises babies and kids make. Even birds chirping. Don't get me started if it's a repetitive noise. And I too get startled easily. Gosh we're so the same! Anyway, I wanna see the first image that AI gave you please hehehehehe. Loved your poem!
