A Daily Roller Coaster Ride

The ups and downs of it all

He doesn’t see the way he shines in this life,

He doesn’t realise how amazing he really is,

If only he could see through the eyes of those who love him,

To understand his worth, to honour the soul that is his.

**

He stumbles through this thing we call life,

He falls at times but regains his strength,

Every time he stands he’s taller than before,

Pushing through the hard times in great length.

**

His tears are hidden from the world in the dark of night,

His doubts burden his shoulders with their heavy weight,

His self confidence takes a tumble as life hits hard,

And he struggles constantly battling his self-hate.

**

If only……

If only he could see through my eyes,

If only he could feel with my heart,

If only he could hear my loving sighs.

**

He works hard to be the best version he can be,

But still sits within his disappointment and his doubt,

He hides his truth believing he’ll be cast aside,

Not understanding that’s not what my love is about.

**

He sits in the sun with his head bowed,

Warding his heart from the warmth of joy,

Too fearful to take a chance, to let me in,

Guarding his inner child, his little boy.

**

There are days he lives up to his amazing ability,

Days he believes and holds his head high,

Before he tumbles back into the war on repeat,

And is left in the darkness, no one to hear his cry.

**

His internal battle is one of constancy,

Some days he loses but others he’ll garner a win,

A boiling roller coaster ride of persistence,

Minutes lived in ecstasy, minutes lived in sin.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

congratulations on TS. I've seen those I love struggle with their decisions, their ups and downs, their thoughfulness and their ignorance. They listen to those they think are smarter than they are but never realize they are the intelligent ones.

I didn't see anything as sinful until you got to the end, and I question whether there was sin.
