A Call

Caught Somewhere Between Maternity Leave and Employment

A call missed.

A message left.

Anxiety sneaking.

Hope glimmering.

Relief?

A quiet room.

A deep breath.

Nerves calmed.

A call made.

Shaking hands.

A call answered.

A rejection offered.

Disorientation emerging.

Confusion creeping.

A stammer uttered.

A call ended.

No reason given.

Zero feedback.

Disappointment.

Discouragement.

Solace.

Comfort.

Discombobulation.

My first job interview since going on maternity leave was unsuccessful.

The callback left me with a mix of emotions.

Respect for giving me the news firsthand, but why didn't he just say that in the message?

I’ve been looking for work for a year, as my writing isn’t paying the bills. Your poem spoke to me so much! I pray the right job comes your way, and that you won’t even have to fight for it. 🥰

  • How frustrating! I hope you find something soon.

A poem of hope, but lending hope to possibly being broken. This was a very real dive into the horrors of what could go wrong after maternity leave. It shows how much power these employers have and how inhumane the process of hiring is. A message would've been better, I know the feeling. Thank you for sharing this side of pain with us Sandy. Sending you lots of hugs and love 🤗❤️

  • I can so relate to this, Sandy. Been through this. Don't worry, stay strong. I know you are meant for bigger things. @Sandy Gillman

But u r on maternity leave...shouldn't you still have a job. Just a bit confused, unless you voluntarily stayed home. Best of luck, praying for success.

  • I'm so sorry Sandy 🥺 I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you 🤞🏼🤞🏼✨️❤️ Sending you lots of love and hugs ❤️

  • I am so sorry to hear this is happening dear Sandy. Be encouraged. The right job is coming and it is one where you will be grateful to be in the right company and serving with the right people. Wishing you all the best always ❤️

  • That must have been difficult to deal with, but thank you for sharing your feelings
