Why My Dog Thrived on Ollie—And Why Yours Will Too

Ollie is the best dog food we've tried in a long time.

My stunning Ziya.

I’ve been a dog parent my entire life, so I have tried all different brands of food depending on what breed I’ve had and what their individual needs have been. I have always been very meticulous about what I give my fur babies. We have tried about four different brands so far since Ziya is about 9 months old now, and because she’s a Bernese Mountain Dog, I wanted to make sure I did my research and am feeding her the best possible food for that breed. They have different needs than most breeds, can gain weight easily, and often have joint or other health issues. She tends to want to eat anything and everything, which is typical for her breed, but because certain things don’t sit well, she can have pretty odorous farts sometimes and less than firm stool. So I’ve been on the hunt for something better for her.

After trying out all different brands with mixed results, I decided to give Ollie a shot. I had heard great things about it, and I had friends and co-workers who feed their pups Ollie, but I wasn’t sure if it would live up to the hype. I’ve tried fresh dog food before, but it wasn’t as high-quality as it claimed to be, and my dogs didn’t seem to be too impressed either. We’d tried Fromm and Blue Buffalo canned food, both of which upset Ziya’s stomach, and TLC, a hard kibble that was just too hard for them to feel comfortable eating. They were less than enthused with everything else, so seeing them so excited made my first impression of Ollie clear: This food was different!

For my first order, I opted for the mixed meal plan with a variety of recipes to see which one she liked the best. I wanted her to try the fresh food, but I knew she was used to kibble, too. I got the beef and sweet potato kibble, then for the fresh plans I got turkey with blueberries, chicken with carrots, and lamb with cranberries. The kibble was really light in weight, and you can see the ingredients in each kibble piece, which shows just how high quality this food is.

Honestly, it’s been hard to tell which was her absolute favorite since she licked all her bowls clean, but I can’t deny that she is a red meat lover! She very clearly enjoyed the lamb and cranberry fresh food and the beef and sweet potato kibble, based on how she jumped once she smelled the food in her bowl. Which I can understand: one of the first things I noticed about Ollie’s food is how good it smelled! All of the recipes honestly smell like something I would eat. I’m almost tempted to try them myself! Every dog food we’ve tried before has had that same typical, not-so-delicious dog food smell, but Ollie smells like real food, so that is a first for me. It is clear this is a high-quality product, made with care for the animals eating it and with plenty of attention to detail.

That tongue! Can you tell she is ready to eat?

The most significant change I’ve seen so far has been in my dogs’ health. Both Ziya, and her brother Thoreau(a rescued shepherd mix in his senior years) are benefiting from this food in different ways. Ziya has more firm poops and seems to be full without feeling like she’s overly stuffed. It is clear Ollie is meeting her digestive needs in a way that other brands haven’t been able to. She also can’t wait to lick her brother’s bowl when he’s done eating!

Our older dog, Thoreau, is a different story. He has become super picky, and if he doesn’t like something, he simply won’t eat until we get him something else. We’ve even had to swap between multiple types of food for each meal to keep him interested. It has been so much trial and error with him, which has been really stressful and upsetting. It’s such a huge relief when we take out Ollie—he runs over and can’t wait to chow down and eat his entire bowl. Sometimes he even asks for more food, which isn’t like him! He hasn’t missed a meal since we switched to Ollie, and it’s such a blessing!

Another thing I appreciate about Ollie is how easy it is to feed my babies the right amount. The food is tailored to their specific needs, so I don’t have to worry about overfeeding or underfeeding. It’s a relief to know that they’re getting exactly what they need to stay healthy and happy. If my pups aren’t happy, I’m not happy either.

Switching to Ollie has been one of the best decisions we’ve made for our fur babies. Their health has definitely improved, and so have their farts! Their meals are more enjoyable for them, and I have peace of mind knowing that I’m giving them the best possible care. We’re definitely an Ollie family now, and I couldn’t be prouder of that. If you’re on the fence about making the switch, I highly recommend giving Ollie a try. It’s been a game changer for both of our babies, and I’m sure it will be for yours too.
